History

Campco Federal Credit Union, or CFCU, was started in 1971 by 10 members as Campco School Employees Federal Credit Union.  As stated in its name, Campco served only employees of the Campbell County School District, immediate family of those members, and employees of the credit union.  At the time Campco was chartered, business was conducted from a member’s home with only share accounts and very small loans being offered to its membership.  In 1986 Campco merged with Consolidated Credit Union.  Only later in the 1980’s did Campco generate enough business to relocate to its first leased office, which was shared with a local accounting firm.

In Campco’s 20th anniversary year, it had grown to its first $5 million in assets, Campco School Employees FCU was now Campco Federal Credit Union (CFCU); and was serving all Campbell County government and City employees.  Soon after, land was purchased and plans began for CFCU’s new main branch and building at 902 E. 3rd Street in Gillette, WY.  In 1993, CFCU officially moved into its new location.

Three years later in 1996, and at nearly $10 million in assets, CFCU’s charter was amended to a community charter that would serve all those who live, work or worship in Campbell County.

Continuous growth in the 1990’s also led to the opening of CFCU’s Wright Branch that began in leased office space in the small community of Wright, WY.  Because of this new branch, CFCU was able to reach out and provide increased convenience to all residents of Campbell County.

But the most significant growth that CFCU has ever experienced, was between the years of 2002 when CFCU reached a milestone of $25 million in assets to 2008 when it doubled its assets to $50 million.  It was also in this timeframe that CFCU was able to purchase additional land in the Wright community to build a new building for the Wright Branch.

By the time CFCU celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2011, we were sitting at $62 million in assets, and again expanded the Field of Membership to include all of North East Wyoming in Campbell, Johnson, Weston, Crook, Converse, and Sheridan Counties.

In 2014 CFCU continued to stay financially strong.  In July CFCU moved into its new headquarters, which is located at 1110 E Boxelder Rd in Gillette, WY.  When moving into the new location CFCU’s asset size was $82 million and served over 11,000 members.

Campco has continued to grow since our move to our current headquarters. With an update in our technology used and a focus on product development , Campco has continued to serve our members in the best way possible. We now have an asset size of $115 million and serve over 13,000 members.
